G.R.A.V.E.L. - CARD CHAOS! August 31st!

G.R.A.V.E.L. - Gamers Revel At Villains Evil Lair!
Theme: Card Chaos
August 31st 6-Midnight

The Windsor Gaming Resource and Villains Beastro are proud to announce our third GRAVEL gaming event.

The Villains Beastro is a unique, funky, weird, mystical, fun, serious, laid back, Viking-feeling, pub-looking rock n’ roll type place that has decided to open their doors for us. It’s the perfect spot for a group of geeks to hang out and play some games. There are plenty of tables of all sizes, a well lit stage area, some great beers on draft and a selection of great tasting sandwiches. Villains has agreed to give us the space for free and I encourage everyone to support the venue by buying food and drink.

Our fist two G.R.A.V.E.L. events were huge successes and Villains has been asking us when we can return. I'm not one to deny a mastermind, so we will be returning on August 31st. The gaming starts at 6PM and will officially go until Midnight.

The theme this time around is Card Chaos. We will be expecting people to bring card based games. This can be anything from people playing traditional games like Euchre and Uno to deck building games like Dominion and Nightfall or party games like Fluxx and Apples to Apples.

This is an open non-competitive gaming event that anyone is welcome to attend. Any form of games are welcome, board, card, rpg, miniatures, whatever you want to bring we are willing to have you. We encourage people to bring games that fit the theme but if there's something you just have to share, feel free to bring it. We aren't rule lawyers. You are welcome to bring your own games or share in some of ours. Everything we bring we are willing to teach and no experience is necessary. The goal is to get as many local gamers out as possible to enjoy some good food, some good company and some good games!

An important note: we are not a private club. Anyone and everyone is welcome to come out and join in the games. If you see someone playing a game and it looks interesting, ask about it. If you see a game on a table and you want to try it out, ask around and see if someone will teach it.

G.R.A.V.E.L. - Part 2 - July 20th

G.R.A.V.E.L.
Theme: Science Fiction!

The Windsor Gaming Resource and Villains Beastro are proud to announce our second GRAVEL gaming event.

The Villains Beastro is a unique, funky, weird, mystical, fun, serious, laid back, Viking-feeling, pub-looking rock n’ roll type place that has decided to open their doors for us. The theme is Villains of all types. The bar is in the shape of a '45, the walls are covered with mug shots of all manner of vile and evil villains. It’s basically the perfect spot for a group of geeks to hang out and play some games. There are plenty of tables of all sizes, a well lit stage area some great beers on draft and a selection of great tasting sandwiches. Villains has agreed to give us the space for free and I encourage everyone to support our new venue by buying food and drink.

Our fist GRAVEL event back on June 15th was a huge success and Villains practically begged to have us back. I'm not one to deny a mastermind, so we will be returning on July the 20th. The festivities start at 6PM and officially go until Midnight. Villains is open until 3AM and if people want to stay long into the night that's cool.

The theme this time around is Science Fiction! We are encouraging people to bring games that represent this theme. Battlestar Gallactica, Alien Frontiers, Robo Rally, Starfarers of Catan, Space Munckin, etc. Non-thematic games are also welcome but it will be more fun the more people that participate.

This is an open non-competitive gaming event that anyone is welcome to attend. Any form of games are welcome, board, card, rpg, miniatures, whatever you want to bring we are willing to have you. You are welcome to bring your own games or share in some of ours. Everything we bring we are willing to teach and no experience is necessary. The goal is to get as many local gamers out as possible to enjoy some good food, some good company and some good games!

An important note: we are not a public club. Anyone and everyone is welcome to come out and join in the games.

The Great Canadian Board Game Blitz Windsor Championship - May 12th

This May, the Great Canadian Board Game Blitz will be returning to Windsor Ontario for the third consecutive year. May 12th, gamers will gather at Hugin & Munin to participate in the local arm of this tournament. Prizes will include gift certificates for the store and a grand prize consisting of a pass to play in the finals held this summer in Toronto at Fan Expo.

The Great Canadian Board Game Blitz is a circuit of board game tournaments held at game conventions and retailers across Canada. Participants play several rounds of games over the span of about eight hours, collecting points based on their finishing rank in each game. The overall winner will be the player with the highest total points at the end of the day. As a player, you get to play five different games and meet many other gamers. Organizers are willing to teach all of the games, no prior experience with the games is needed. This means the Blitz is also a great way to try out new games.

The Windsor event will consist of five rounds of games with a one hour break for lunch/dinner. The event is being hosted at Hugin & Munin (1664 Tecumseh Rd. East), starts at 10:00am and is expected to be fully wrapped up by 7:00pm. There is a nomial entry fee of $5, all of which goes towards prizes for First, Second and Third placed participants.

You can find out more about The Great Canadian Board Game Blitz on their website at: http://www.gcbgb.ca/

The official rules can be found here:

Games and Grub at the Green Bean - December 16th

The Windsor Gaming Resource presents a night of free open gaming at the Green Bean Coffee Co. on December 16th. This is a public event at which anyone is welcome to attend.

16 December · 18:00 - 23:00

Green Bean Coffee Company
2320 Wyandotte St. West (lower)
Windsor, Ontario

One more gaming event before the big holiday celebration. One last chance to try out that game you got last year that you still haven't played yet.

The Green Bean Cafe is a great independent coffee house that offers a good selection of food and java. The Cafe is located at 2320 Wyandotte St W. in the Basement of a Church on the corner of Wyandotte and Askin (The one that says God Loves Students on the side). You can find out more about The Green Bean here: http://www.greenbeancoffee.info/ The Cafe is providing us this space for free so please show your support and thanks by buying something to drink and eat.

As far as the gaming goes you can expect the usual mix of games from one of our Games and Grub events. A mix ranging from casual to strategic, from Ameritrash to Eurogame and pretty much everything in between. For example at previous events we have had World of Warcraft: The Adventure Game, Alien Frontiers, Small World, The Great Dalmuti, Dominion, Scrabble, Shadows over Camelot, Carcasonne, No Thanks!, Settlers of Catan, Modern Art, Hex Hex DX, Hive, Caylus, Agricola and more.

This is a casual event organized to get some people out to try some new games and to get a chance to play the games they love. None of us take things too seriously, we are all out to have a good time and enjoy the company of other gamers.

If you have any questions or comments please post here and we will do our best to answer them.

Heroclix in Cambridge

Hello everyone. We are currently looking to run a heroclix league at Retro Rocket in Cambridge. If there is anyone interested, please feel free to message me at freebs66@hotmail.com with any questions.

For this season, we will be straying away from the comic-accurate teams, and instead will treat it more like a fantasy sports league; drafting individual pieces that you will use for the season to help expand your team. Only pieces with cards will be available (NO BATMAN ALPHA pieces)
The draft will take place in 7 rounds, with each player choosing 1 piece at a time, in a snake-style draft (meaning that 1st pick in the first round will have last pick in the second round, and last pick in the first round will also have first pick in the second round)
Each player will have 500 draft points, and a 7-slot roster. The first half of the season will be 350 point games, with the second half of the season being 450 point games.
At no point can you play a piece that is more than 50% of the build total (175 and under for the first half of the season, 225 and under for the second half of the season)
Once a piece is taken, no one else can use that piece. However, if someone drafts common Batman from Justice League, the Super Rare Batman from Justice League, as well as any other piece named Batman is still up for grabs.
There will be a couple restrictions on pieces that can be drafted;
- No chase, buy it by the brick or prize piece. This means that any piece that is numbered 1-60 is draftable (1-55 for Brave and the Bold), while any higher numbered piece will be unavailable
- The players involved will be creating a list of undraftable pieces (probably 1 or 2 pieces chosen per player, depending on the number of players we have). Let’s be honest, no one wants to go up against a piece like Nightcrawler, Kid Flash or Skrull Ms. Marvel
After every week of games, players may draft additional pieces for their team, with priority going to the lowest place team.
Teams will earn 5 draft points for a win, and 10 for a loss. This will hopefully help out lower place teams to turn things around in the later part of the season.
Characters will gain STATS like previous seasons, but instead of getting character-specific upgrades, you will be getting upgrades for your team in the form of an additional 50 draft points, 1 more roster spot, or an alternate team ability for one of your pieces. All STATS will be added together for your team, and thus the upgrades will be harder to get; 20 SA, AST or DFD (instead of 10), or 10 KO (instead of 5). What this means is that you can add Batman’s 13 SA with Superman’s 7 SA to upgrade your team. Because of these high numbers, when you upgrade, the STAT doesn’t reset to 0, it just subtracts 20 (or 10 in the case of KO).
Injuries will work similar to last season. If a character is critically hit, or critically misses, they become injured. This season, when a character is injured, they have -1 to all 5 combat stats (speed, attack, defence, damage and range) for 2 games. You may choose to sit the character for these 2 games, after which they are back to normal, or you may choose to play them with the injury. If they are critically hit or they critically miss while injured, they suffer a season ending injury. This is the ONLY time that you may drop someone from your roster to free up a spot and points, and even at that, you may only do it once.
Other points of interest;
- While drafting, you may draft generics. Once a generic is drafted, no one else may draft that particular generic.
- For the purposes of team roster spots, 2 generics equals 1 normal draft pick.
- For the purposes of the league, any character card with “various” as their name is considered generic.
- You may draft additional copies of your generic. All previous rules apply
- There will be no theme team bonuses. Maps will be pre-determined, and there will be no theme team re-rolls.
- No BFCs or feats will be used this season.

Invite to area boardgamers - Games and Grub 17 - Nov 13th

This is an open invite to all Windsor and surrounding area gamers.

The Windsor Gaming Resource will be hosting an afternoon of gaming on Saturday November 13th at the Walker Road Knights of Columbus, in Windsor Ontario, from Noon until 6:00PM. This will be our 17th Games and Grub event.

At previous events we played some great games including Advanced Civilization, Agricola, Alhambra, Attika, Bang!, Bohnanza, Chez Dork, Dust, El Grande, Formula D, Hex Hex DX, Igor, Hacienda, Modern Art, Munchkin, Power Grid, Pandemic, Puerto Rico, Settlers of Catan, Shadows Over Camelot, Smallworld, Starcraft, Ticket to Ride and more.

We will have access to 2-3 large tables that should fit up to three reasonably sized boardgames each, or one massive one like The World of Warcraft Boardgame. The Knights of Columbus will be open to the public at the time, but this has never been a problem in the past and we have held multiple events at this venue. The worst that happens is regulars come over and ask what the heck are we playing and then ask if it's anything like Risk or Monopoly.

The KofC has a good sized offering of home cooked comfort food style items. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic Beverages will also be available. As the Council is not charging us to host this event I encourage everyone to support the venue by purchasing some food and/or drink while at the event. The KofC is is located at 1711 Walker Road between Tecumseh and Seminole. We will be in the restaurant portion, not the hall.

At these events we usually play boardgames, but we have also had people there playing miniature games and various card games. There are usually plenty of games to choose from, I know I always bring 8 or so different games and other players bring their favourites. Feel free to bring yours! If you have any specific requests or want to know if people are interested in playing your game, reply here.

A disclaimer: The WGR has no ties or affiliation with the Knights of Columbus or what they represent, it's just a good venue to play some games at that also happens to be free.
